WILTSHIRE
Wiltshire is a county of great diversity and beauty. Commonly known as "The gateway to the West Country", the county covers about 3,500 sq km, much of it designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it encompasses the districts of Kennet, West Wilts, North Wilts, Salisbury and South Wilts. There are many stunning ancient sites including the world famous Stonehenge, Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill (Europe's biggest man-made prehistoric mound), and West Kennet Long Barrow (Britain's largest burial chamber). There are historic houses and gardens, castles and abbeys to visit, such as Stourhead and Laycock Abbey. Discover traditional market towns such as Marlborough, the medieval city of Salisbury with it's impressive cathedral with the highest spire in England, as well as many modern day family attractions including Longleat Safari Park. The county has an overall "country feel" and makes for a relaxing and extremely interesting and varied destination for all holiday makers.
