Shropshire is a peaceful, unobtrusive county, but not one lacking in things to do. Here you will find a haven of tranquillity but also places that will suit those seeking a little more hustle and bussle. There are around 100 attractions including the famous Ironbridge, many gardens, historic houses and castles. There are also some wonderful market and medieval towns such as the county town of Shrewsbury which will delight the eye and the taste-buds as there are many great places to enjoy the local cuisine. The countryside, and the foundations of this county are quite unique - here underneath the surface (and sometimes on show) is an array of geological history combining 11 of the known periods in one relatively small are. Discover the rocky outcrop of Wenlock Edge, the Longmynd valleys, the lakes around Ellesmere and the Ironbridge Gorge - all part of the evolutionary process of this landscape. Funnily enough Darwin was born in Shrewsbury! Man has then made his mark on the surface of this amazing landscape - hill top forts (over twenty of them), castles, Roman roads, canals and not forgetting to mention the famous Offa's Dyke built in the 8th century and which is the longest archaeological structure in Britain. So if you are looking for a nice and gentle sort of holiday but with plenty of interest, you couldn't come to a better place. It's easy to get to and it's easy to get about to visit the local attractions.
