 LANCASHIRE

A very popular tourist destination due to the fact that it has a wide variety of options available, whatever your taste in leisure. There are ancient sites, castles, Championship golf courses, historic towns and cities, superb countryside and best of all - a warm welcome.

This county is also in a great position as it is centrally placed for a glorious coastline to the west, the Pennine hills over to the east, the Lake District to the north and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool to the south.

BLACKPOOL

And then there's Blackpool, the nation's favourite playground. No matter where you are or what you do in Britain's number one resort you'll always have a great time.

Blackpool must be one of the UK’s greatest seaside towns, and probably one of the most famous. There is plenty to do during the day with its pleasure beaches, shopping, and daytime entertainment. But when the sun sets – that’s when Blackpool really comes alive. Live shows in glitzy theatres (there’s four to choose from plus an opera house); cinema screens – there is a major cinema complex with all the latest movies on offer; nightclubs, bars, restaurants galore and even ballroom dancing.

Blackpool is also famous throughout the world for its illuminations – being one of the first towns in England to “go electric” it has gone from strength to strength (or from light to lighter) and now uses the latest in technology to brighten the night sky on the Lancashire coast – there is five miles of blazing lights. The illuminations are on display from 2nd September to 6th November in 2005, and 1st September to 5th November in 2006. Have an amazing autumn break and see Blackpool at its best.

We must also mention Blackpool Tower – here you can discover one of the best UK circuses, the Tower Ballroom and a wide variety of entertainments for all ages.

Sometimes though, it might be nice to take a break from this hustle and bustle of entertainment and take a few moments to enjoy some peace and quiet – you can do this right here in Blackpool. Stanley Park is an award winning area of horticulture, with Italian gardens, a boating lake and a nature reserve. You will also find a bowling green and a golf course. But then of course, from Blackpool you are only a stone’s throw from some glorious countryside and coast

All you need to do now is find somewhere to go to sleep at night (although you may not spend many hours doing that, in Blackpool!). Choose from grand hotels to cosy bed & breakfasts, or maybe look after yourself in a self catering flat or apartment. Of course, you may find the perfect holiday cottage just outside Blackpool and make the best of both worlds.
