Property Description and Facilities

The Victorian White Horse is prominently situated in the market town of Cranbrook, near Tunbridge Wells. Following a total refurbishment, the contemporary style throughout is a surprising contrast to the character exterior of the Hotel.

The ‘L’ shaped bar has two distinctly different areas – one with Sky TV for sporting locals and one with comfy sofas and chairs for those who want to relax and enjoy the large selection of wines and spirits, 4 cask-conditioned ales, the ‘bean de cut’ coffee, or the quality bar menu which changes on a daily basis. The contemporary non-smoking 20-seater restaurant has an exclusive A La Carte menu and a great selection of 20 wines – all by the glass or bottle.

A separate guest entrance and key, allowing late night entry into the four spacious guest rooms, fresh hand cream in the plush ladies toilets and disabled access and alarmed CCTV, shows customer care is a high priority.

Car parking, patios to the front and rear, complete the superb offer at the White Horse with organised outings for guests, a bonus.

Location and Local Amenities

Cranbrook is an old market town that came into prominence in the 15th century, when it became a centre of the weaving industry. A number of old buildings date back to the days of its greatest prosperity. Dominating the town is the Union Mill, a three-storied windmill built in 1816, standing 72 ft. high, it is the second highest in England. It is now in the care of the Kent County Council and is kept in full working order with all its equipment intact.

The parish church, St. Dunstan’s, stands on a site believed to have been occupied by two earlier churches, Saxon and Norman. The present building of local sandstone was begun in the middle of the 14th century and completed appx 1560. Because of its size it has been referred to as the "Cathedral of the Weald".

Cranbrook School was founded in 1574 and was granted a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I, who also laid the foundation stone of School House, now the headmaster’s house.

Additionally, Cranbrook is a paradise for ramblers – with lots of interesting trails!

Tenterden Railway is a major attraction, only 5 miles away

The Union Windmill was built in 1814 and stands at the highest point overlooking the town of Cranbrook. It is the second tallest surviving windmill in the British Isles, measuring 72 feet to the top of the cap. It is the tallest surviving smock mill, with an eight-sided three-storey brick base and a four-storey, fixed wooden tower above that, clad in white painted weather-board. It has four sails (called sweeps in the Southeast) with patent shutters and a fantail which keeps the sweeps facing into the wind at all times. The mill has recently undergone major renovations and is in excellent working order. Wind permitting, wheat is ground and visitors can purchase wholemeal flour in the shop.

Sissinghurst Castle Garden is one of the world's most famous 20th century gardens. It is the creation of the writer and poet Vita Sackville-West and her husband, diplomat and writer, Harold Nicolson
