Location:
Located in the centre of the western France, this region is a union of
Poitou and Charente with the river valley of Charente in between. This area
is famous for its Cognac. Why not take a
visit to the Cognac Otard Chateau where you
can do some tasting?
Geography: The
southeast of the region is touched by the Massif Central and the north west
is touched by the Massif Armoricain and between the two is a lowland plateau
through which the rivers Vienne and Clain run. To the south are plains that
slope towards the Atlantic ocean with the rivers Sèvres, Nortaise and Yon.
Food and Drink:
Without a doubt, because of its location, this region’s cuisine is heavily
influence by seafood, particularly oysters and mussels. Cognac is one of the
region’s most famous products – the town of Cognac is on the River Charente
and was originally a salt exporting port, which became famous for its brandy
from the 18th century. Today it is still a product of its
“locality” – distilled and bottled locally.
