Derbyshire, located in the north midlands and bordered by Cheshire and Yorkshire to the north, Nottinghamshire to the east, Leicestershire to the south and Staffordshire to the west, is home to one of the most beautiful and interesting of the National Parks - The Peak District. A perfect place for anyone who likes the countryside, nature, heritage, walking, rock climbing or just getting a breath of good old fashioned fresh air – you’ll find plenty of it all.

Take a hike to Creswell Crags - a limestone gorge filled with world famous caves. You can take a guided tour by going into the visitors centre. Or follow the trail of our ancestors by discovering the magnificent pre-historic sites such as Arbor Low stone circle or the Nine Ladies stone circle.

But it’s not just all about countryside – there are some great towns and villages to explore and many fascinating and exciting places to visit. You could go bargain hunting at Chesterfield Market, One of the largest open air markets in England with over 200 stalls or the towns’ museum and art gallery; take a look around Chatsworth House,  walk through the beautiful Belper River Gardens which are part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site; take the kids along to American Adventure theme park  in Ilkeston
where you can make yourselves dizzy on the 100+ rides!

Throughout the year there are events to be enjoyed, such as beer and music festivals. This year sees the first ever Peak District Walking Festival to be held in April.

With so much activity, you’ll be wanting to relax in the evenings in one of the many quiet country pubs, or enjoy a fabulous meal and taste the local cuisine in a country restaurant.

Visiting Derbyshire may not be quite the gentle relaxing break you thought it might be – there’s just too much to do!
