Being just up Matterdale, there are excellent local excursions and walks - including one to the pub. Penrith is a traditional market town whilst Keswick is a tourist town. Both have excellent facilities and shops. Access to the Eden Valley, the Pennines and the Lake District is excellent and in the immediate area there are many villages with friendly pubs, unusual shops and crafts galleries. Ullswater is only four miles away where the steamers provide a stunning introduction to the lake land scenery. Close by are many stone circles, castles and museums. The pubs and restaurants of the area range from the internationally acclaimed to some excellent chip shops via cuisines of most nationalities. Local meat and produce are a feature of many menus, ensuring quality, freshness and great taste and finding the local breweries may keep you occupied for longer than you'd think. Local Amenities and Attractions: Walking, sailing, mountain-biking, bird-watching, clay-pigeon shooting, pony trekking, quad-bike driving, museums, steamers, galleries, shops, theatre-by-the-lake, cinemas, railways, castles, Hadrian's Wall, stone circles, fishing. |
