Location and Local Amenities

Mount's Bay is one of the top ten "Most Beautiful Bays in the World" with the ancient castle on St Michael's Mount, rising out of the sea,its crowning glory. The Penwith peninsula has breathtaking coastal views and in its ancient landscape the traditional farm holding of field and moor still survives.  The abundance of wildlife and flora can be enjoyed along Cornwall's coastal path, while basking sharks and grey seals can also be seen.

Newlyn is Cornwall's largest fishing port, a haven for deep sea trawlers and small inshore craft.  The long arms of its 100-year old harbour walls enclose a tine 15th-century pier.  The exceptionally clear light and bustling life of the port attracted the artist Stanhope Forbes, founder of the Newlyn School of Artists.

The north coast of Cornwall is renowned for surfing and Penwith offers some splendid beaches on which to enjoy this sport.  Mount's Bay also offers a wealth of opportunity for water sports enthusiasts as well as giving visitors an opportunity to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings.  Fishing or pleasure boat trips are available or, further afield, day trips to the unique Isles of Scilly can be enjoyed by helicoper, light aircraft or ferry.

For lovers of gardening, Trengwainton near Penzance, run by the National Trust, is perhaps the most frost-free garden on the mainland of Britain and boasts a most comprehensive collection of rare, sub-tropical plants to be grown outdoors.
At Helston is Flambards, the award-winning, all weather attraction.  At Hayle is Paradise Park where Cornish choughs were bred to return to the wild so they would again soar above the cliffs of West Cornwall.
